Ghana’s 3-1 victory over New Zealand in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup was bittersweet, as the Black Princesses were eliminated despite the win. They had hoped to advance as one of the best third-placed teams, but Argentina’s earlier victory meant their clash with New Zealand was a dead-rubber match, with both teams out of contention.

This marked Ghana’s seventh consecutive appearance in the tournament, but defeats to Austria and Japan had already dashed their hopes of reaching the knockout stage for the first time.
In the match, Ghana took the lead in the 59th minute through Salamatu Abdulai. However, a defensive error allowed New Zealand to equalize just four minutes later. Despite missing several chances, Ghana regained control with Abdulai scoring again, and substitute Tracey Twum added a third in stoppage time.
Despite finishing third in their group with 3 points, the Black Princesses’ early defeats proved too costly, and they exited the tournament once more.
