The parliamentary committee investigating a leaked tape involving three senior police officers has found that they worked together to try to remove Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, from his post. The officers, Commissioner of Police (retired) George Alex Mensah, Superintendent George Lysander Asare, and Superintendent Eric Emmanuel Gyebi, were reportedly seeking a more submissive IGP who would be loyal to the government and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the committee, Superintendent George Lysander Asare initiated a meeting with Chief Bugri Naabu through his son. This meeting included Commissioner George Alex Mensah and later, Superintendent Eric Emmanuel Gyebi. The discussions revolved around the removal of the current IGP and his potential replacement with Commissioner George Mensah.
