The vice-president of Ghana, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia yesterday commissioned the first large scale gold refinery in Ghana, the Royal Ghana Gold Limited in Accra.
Dr Bawumia described the opening of the gold refinery in the capital as “a historic achievement in the natural resources sector.”

“Established through a partnership between the Government of Ghana through the Bank of Ghana and Rosy Royal Minerals Limited, the state-of-the-art refinery is equipped with cutting-edge technology, able to refine gold to 24 carats, 99.99% purity – same quality as a gold delivery bar (LBMA standard) and significantly boosting our capacity to locally process gold and increase value addition prospects,” the vice-president noted in a social media post.
The refinery has the capacity to process about 400-kg of gold has put the country on the path of adding value to its precious minerals.

Dr Bawumia added that, “the refinery will offer premium to gold exported from Ghana. Initially, it is expected to create 80 to 120 direct jobs and another 500 indirect employment opportunities, boosting domestic tax revenue in the form of corporate taxes and enabling us to refine gold to 24 carats, 99.99% purity – same quality as a good delivery bar (LBMA standard).”
On his part, Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, announced the opening of a 450 million maganese refinery soon at Nsuta.
