Bukari Amadu Sorogho, a former Member of Parliament for the Madina Constituency from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has been fined GH¢30,000 by the Accra High Court for constructing a building at Madina Estate despite a court order prohibiting it. The court found him guilty of contempt for ignoring an interlocutory injunction that barred him from building on the land situated opposite the Magistrate Court. The presiding judge, Justice Richard Apietu, ruled that if Sorogho fails to pay the fine, he will serve a one-week prison term.

Sorogho’s lawyer, Jah Josiah, pleaded for a minimal sentence, citing his client’s serious health issues and arguing for a strong warning instead of a custodial sentence until the case is finally resolved. However, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Charles Habiah, insisted that Sorogho should receive a custodial sentence for deliberately disobeying the court’s order, suggesting that Sorogho felt entitled to defy the law due to his status as a former MP.
