The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is in a tight spot as they seek a new coach within a three-week timeframe to spearhead the restructuring of the Black Stars. Despite the preference for two-time AFCON winner Herve Renard, financial limitations may hinder his appointment, given previous unsuccessful negotiations due to wage constraints.

Executive council member Frederick Acheampong acknowledged Renard’s ongoing interest in coaching Ghana but stressed that the country’s challenging economic situation makes hiring him extremely difficult. Acheampong highlighted previous attempts to secure Renard’s services before the World Cup, leading to the hiring of Milovan Rajevic due to financial constraints.
The GFA, facing a deadline of February 2, 2024, for coach applications, considers Renard their primary priority but is exploring alternatives within budget constraints. The five-member committee, headed by GFA Vice President Mark Addo, is diligently working to find a suitable replacement for the ousted Chris Hughton after the Black Stars’ disappointing AFCON 2023 performance. The association aims to appoint a coach capable of leading the team to success and restoring its former glory.
