Andrew Amoah Ampaw, a 33-year-old businessman, has been placed in police custody by the Achimota Circuit Court. Accused of stealing a GH¢100,000 Toyota Corolla from a car rental in Accra, Ampaw rented the car for five days and then passed it to a debtor. Despite pleading not guilty to the charge of stealing, he’s due back in court on March 21.
The case unfolds with ASP Stephen Ahiale leading the prosecution, detailing that both the complainant, Aaron Kofi Mensah, and Ampaw are businessmen from Accra. After renting the vehicle to Ampaw on January 29, 2024, the car was not returned post-rental period, and the tracking device was found disabled. Ampaw admitted to giving the car to an associate to settle a debt and is yet to lead the police to this person.
