Soldier, 36, standing trial for alleged military recruitment scam

A 36-year-old soldier, Clement Ayomah, is standing trial for allegedly collecting GHS136 thousand from 22 people under the pretext of enlisting them into the Ghana Security Services.

The prosecution said Ayomah worked under one Captain Nartey (second accused) as an instructor at the education unit and he only used the second accused’s name to collect money from people.

Captain Nartey has since been discharged by the court for lack of evidence after the prosecution withdrew the charges against him.

The court also revoked any ban or restrictions on him by the Ghana Armed Forces or any other institution.

Meanwhile, Ayomah is still being held on charges of conspiracy and defrauding by false pretences.

Ayomah has pleaded not guilty to the charge of defrauding by false pretences and is on bail.

The case has been adjourned to Thursday, August 8, 2024.
