Teachers’ laptops distribution saga: Who’s lying?

The leadership of the All Teachers Alliance-Ghana has disputed K.A Technologies’ claim that it has successfully completed the nationwide supply and training of laptops under the government’s One Teacher – One Laptop programme.

K.A Technologies recently announced the conclusion of the programme, stating that over 300,000 teachers had received their laptops.

However, Isaac Ofori, President of the All Teachers Alliance-Ghana, challenged this assertion.

Speaking to Citi News, Ofori revealed that his investigations at various local basic schools indicate that some teachers have yet to receive their laptops, casting doubt on the company’s claims of full delivery.

Ofori expressed concerns about the quality of education in Ghana, stating, “We are in a country where we want to promote quality education, some of these key projects and initiatives should not be granted. But it’s unfortunate that K. A Technologies is coming out to say that it is done with the distribution of the laptops and also the training of the teachers.

“I don’t have to mince words because individually as I stand here, I’ve not received any form of training that I can use myself as evidence that a training has gone on.”

“Similarly, I’ve been in three different schools, from the demonstration up till now, I’ve been posted to two different schools and I’ve not heard any announcement for a letter that we are going to be trained on the laptops. So clearly, evidence on the ground shows no training has taken place and if today K. A Technologies comes out that there has been a training, there must be good evidence to provide evidence to that effect.”

The Alliance is demanding transparency and accountability from K.A Technologies, seeking proof of the training and distribution of laptops to all beneficiary teachers.
