Gas stations in Accra risk shutting down as shortage of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) hits part of the capital.
This possibility, according to gas marketers, would affect many businesses as the effect is already being felt by residents in some parts of the affected areas.
Many gas stations in Accra have resulted to closing early than their usual closing time or displaying “NO GAS” signs at their entrances.
Long queues with gas cylinders lined up is a common scene at the few gas stations with some LPG available.
Customers who are impacted by the scarcity are pleading with authorities to act quickly to address the problem.
Vice President of the LPG Marketers Association (LPGMA), Gabriel Kumi, cautioned that things could get worse in an interview with Accra-based Channel One News.
He warned that petrol stations would experience widespread shutdowns by the weekend if supply from Bulk Oil Distributors do not increase.
Meanwhile, the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has refuted these claims noting that the problem has been fixed.
