The police officer who assaulted a restrained suspect in a widely shared video has been placed under immediate interdiction for professional misconduct.
On Friday, November 22, 2024, the Ghana Police Service released a statement confirming this.
The officer, who was assigned to the Tuna Police Station in the Savannah Region, was identified in the statement as Detective Corporal Baba Amando Ibrahim.

The guy, wearing a grey shirt and blue shorts, has his wrists handcuffed behind his back while the uniformed officer, Detective Corporal Ibrahim, repeatedly hits his face and chest in the footage circulating on social media.
Additionally, the officer can be heard telling the guy to kneel and then seizing him by the neck and slapping him again when he refuses.
Since then, the video has caused widespread indignation, and the Ghana Police Service has responded quickly.

The statement released by the Ghana Police Service noted that Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has engaged the victim’s family.
“The Inspector-General of Police has reached out to the family of the victim and offered assurance of support. The IGP has accordingly directed the Savannah Regional Police Commander to work with the family in this regard.”
