Why teacher unions, educations workers are meeting the Education Minister in Accra tomorrow.

Teacher unions and general workers in the education will meet the Minister of Education tomorrow amid growing tensions and increasing strike actions in the country.

The Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA), the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), and the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) are among the unions that are currently on strike over a number of demands.

The unions have made it plain that unless all of their issues are adequately addressed, they will not be going back to work.

As a result, the academic calendar in many schools throughout the nation has been severely disrupted.

With many universities in the capital and across the country postponing their reopening dates for the 2024/25 academic year.

The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has promised to step in and see that these demands raised by the unions are met.

Tomorrow’s meeting with the Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, is expected to bring some form of finality to the issue.

Meanwhile, university students in Ghana are eager for the outcome of the meeting.
