Would there be Dumsor in the capital as ECG starts maintenance exercise today?

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is set to embark on a planned six-day maintenance exercise starting today, September 12, 2024, to next Wednesday, September 18, 2024.

The exercise is expected to cause a temporary restriction on gas supply to the FPSO John Agyekum Kufuor and related infrastructure.

This has raised concerns and questions from the public, especially residents in the capital, about whether this is going to lead to power outages in Accra and beyond.

However, a press statement released by ECG yesterday, September 11, 2024, has assured the general public that there will be no power outages during the six days of the maintenance.

“We do not anticipate power outages as a result of this exercise. However, in the unlikely event that power generation is impacted, the public will be duly informed,” the company said.

The statement also added that: “Government has made alternative arrangements for fuel to mitigate the impact of the shutdown on power generation.”

The company says it will closely monitor the ongoing maintenance exercise to ensure that there will be limited potential power disruptions during the period.
