The Transport Operators Association of Ghana has announced a postponement of the proposed 15 percent increment in transport fares expected to take effect today July 22.
The decision to suspend followed an invitation by the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Transport Ministry for a round table discussion to ensure a smooth implementation of the new fares or possibly a cancellation altogether.
The association has advised its members to remain patient and trust their leadership as they wait for an update.
Passengers have also been advised by the association not to pay any new fares, to wait for official communication after the meeting.
This, some passengers in the capital said was a huge relief for them as the proposed new fares would have increased their daily expenditure.
