A young man facing charges of theft has been placed in police custody by an Accra Circuit Court following allegations of stealing a significant sum of money from a medical officer at the Police Hospital in Accra. The 23-year-old, named Philip Kodzi, stands accused of the theft of $9,000, £4,400, and €700, to which he has entered a plea of not guilty.
Accompanying Kodzi in the legal proceedings are Sarah Onyinyechie, a beautician, and Raphael Dovlo, a painter, both 23 years old and charged with abetment of the crime. They, too, have denied the accusations against them. The presiding judge, Basilia Adjei-Tawia, ordered Kodzi to be detained by the police while granting Onyinyechie bail with strict conditions, including a GH$50,000.00 bond with two sureties, travel document surrender, and regular check-ins at the Police Cantonment.

Raphael Dovlo received a similar bail condition, with the added requirement that one of his sureties present a justified indenture or a bank statement with a minimum closing balance equal to the bail amount. Both Onyinyechie and Dovlo are mandated to comply with the bail terms until further notice from the court. The case was presented by Police Chief Inspector Daniel Ofori, who informed the court about the victim, Chief Superintendent Dr. Rosen Yeboah, and his position at the Police Hospital in Accra.
