Four persons have been confirmed dead in the fire outbreak that blazed several structures in Kpone Kokompe inside Tema last Friday, September 13, 2024, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed.
The four victims as identified by GNFS include a 14-year-old girl, two boys aged 11 and 2, and a 27-year-old man.

The fire started at 11:28pm and engulfed 10 wooden structures before fire service personnel were able to control it from spreading to other structures.
A statement released by GNFS on Saturday, September 14, 2024, said firefighters arrived about 19 minutes after the fire had started, brought it under control in 44 minutes and fully quenched it in one hour, eight minutes.

“Firefighters arrived at 2347 hours [11:47pm] but were unaware that the 27-year-old man had returned home unexpectedly, leading to his unnoticed death.
“The fierce fire was brought under control at 0031 hours [12:31am] and fully extinguished at 0055 hours [12:55am], but the tragedy had already unfolded, leaving a community in mourning. Our condolences to the bereaved families and that of the affected victims.”
It said the Tema Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Patrick Sallah and some Officers visited the affected victims earlier today to commiserate with them and assessed the fire damage.

The actual cause of the fire is not known yet, but the service said investigations are underway to establish that.
