Breaking: Tragic Passing of Ghanaian Footballer Raphael Dwamena Following On-Field Collapse

Ghanaian forward Raphael Dwamena tragically passed away after collapsing during a football match, the result of a cardiac arrest. The incident occurred during a game between Egnatia Rrogozhine and Partizani in Albania. This unfortunate event, happening in the 23rd minute of the Superliga Match Day 13, led to the suspension of the match.

Dwamena had a history of heart issues, being diagnosed in 2017 and subsequently receiving an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) in 2020 during his time with Levante in Spain. Despite this intervention, he faced a relapse in October 2021, collapsing during a match in the Austrian League.

His heart condition played a significant role in his transfer to Velje Boldklub in the Danish Superliga, which was ultimately halted due to concerns about his heart measurements expressed by the club’s sporting director.

Though Dwamena was called up for the Black Stars squad in the 2017 AFCON competition, he narrowly missed the final 23-man selection. Notably, he scored on his international debut during a 2017 AFCON qualifier against Ethiopia under the management of Kwasi Appiah.
