Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies missed securing a spot in the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League final after a gripping 2-2 draw against Sporting Club Casablanca led to a 3-2 loss in penalties on Wednesday.
Despite Comfort Yeboah’s early penalty goal within six minutes, Casablanca responded with an own goal scored by Apem Darkoa and a stunning 25-yard strike from Jennifer Owusuaa gave the Ghanaian champions the lead going into the half time break. Casablanca scored after the breakleveling the score twice.
Unfortunately, Ampem Darkoa Ladies faltered in the shootout, missing three crucial penalties—Comfort Yeboah, Latifa Abesik, and Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah couldn’t convert their chances, resulting in a narrow defeat. The intense match pushed into penalties after extra time, sealing Sporting Club Casablanca’s 3-2 victory from the spot.
Now, Ampem Darkoa Ladies aim to salvage a strong finish in the tournament by contending for third place against ASFAR Club. Despite the disappointment, the Ghanaian champions aspire to conclude their campaign on a positive note.
