Per the Fire Precaution (Premises) Regulations, 2003 (L.I. 1724), every business entity that owns a physical premises for its operations must acquire a fire certificate.
However, it appears that non-compliance is on the rise, following a recent declaration the by Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). The failure of which, according to the GNFS, compromises the safety of lives and property.
In a Citi News interview, the Greater Accra Regional Fire Safety Officer, Divisional Officer Grade 1 (DO1) Evans Osei Owusu, indicated that his outfit would soon clamp down on owners of commercial facilities that have not been certified for fire safety.
