Renowned singer Efya has voiced her displeasure over Parliament’s decision to debate the prohibition of sex toys in the country. This comes after Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Communications Minister and MP for Ablekuma West, argued against the criminalization of sex toys in the Anti-LGBT Bill, stating it could unintentionally impact heterosexual couples who use such devices. Owusu-Ekuful pointed out that if the intent is to criminalize sex toys, then the Bill would not only target the LGBT community but also those who use these toys, calling for the clause to be removed.

However, Efya believes the discussion on sex toys in Parliament is a case of misplaced priority. She questions how the debate aids in dealing with the country’s inflation, expressing frustration over the perceived lack of focus on more pressing national issues. This sentiment echoes a wider concern about the use of parliamentary time and resources on matters that some consider less critical compared to other urgent national issues.
