President Akufo-Addo recently voiced his bewilderment regarding Ghana’s disappointing performance in major football events despite possessing considerable talent. The Black Stars encountered setbacks in the last two significant competitions, exiting at the group stages of both the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in January 2022 and the 2022 World Cup in December of the same year. Additionally, they faced a round of 16 elimination at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

During a meeting with the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the vital need for thorough preparation ahead of the imminent 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, scheduled to start in just 23 days. A passionate football enthusiast, the President acknowledged the team’s challenges and the unsatisfactory recent game outcomes.

He assured the Executive Council of his steadfast support, expressing, “We have some very good talents scattered across the globe, so I don’t understand why we shouldn’t perform well in tournaments.”
