The Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) has recently declared that government employees who don’t have a Ghana Card will not be able to receive their salaries in March. This decision highlights the significance of the Ghana Card, which is now a mandatory requirement for salary disbursement to ensure compliance with identification and documentation requirements. Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem, the Controller and Accountant General, has warned that government employees without a Ghana Card may risk losing their salaries.
This announcement was made following the launch of a new software solution that connects the databases of the Mechanised Payroll System of the CAGD and the National Identification Authority (NIA). The primary goal of this initiative is to remove ‘ghost names’ from the government payroll, thus ensuring that only legitimate public sector workers are paid. This action is in line with the government’s commitment to responsible financial management, as it enhances transparency, efficiency, and accountability in the use of public funds.
