Disappointed by unmet expectations at AFCON 2023, a group of fervent Black Stars supporters from Ivory Coast, initially transported by the Ghanaian government, successfully secured $400 each. The fans, expressing frustration on January 15 due to inadequate coordination and support from organizers, posed a collective threat to return to Ghana.
Faced with over 300 supporters contemplating abandonment, officials engaged in negotiations to avert the situation’s escalation. A journalist among the supporters confirmed that, following rounds of discussions, all discontented fans were paid $400 each to address their grievances.

Sharing the positive turn of events, the journalist stated, “There is good news. Yesterday after the story broke, around midnight, most of us here went to sleep before the officials came, and they gave us what we were due.”
When asked if all supporters received $400, the journalist replied, “I am not aware, but what I do know from some dwellers [from other hotels] is that they also received $400, as those at the hotel [I am] received. For the entire tournament, officials were unable to tell us, so we don’t know if this [$400] is going to be for the entire tournament.”
