Abubakar Sani, a motor rider, found himself in hot water with the law and was handed a week’s custodial sentence by the Kaneshie District Court for various traffic violations. The charges against him included careless riding and crossing red lights at Kanda Highways. Sani admitted guilt to three separate counts: “Careless and inconsiderate riding, failing to comply with road traffic signs to wit; Red Light and causing danger to other road users.” Although he faced fines for each count, the court ordered the sentences to run concurrently, resulting in a single penalty of GH¢240. Failure to pay up would land Sani a week behind bars, as stated by Magistrate Nana Abena Asoh Owusu-Omenyo.

The incident leading to Sani’s conviction occurred on March 1, 2024, when he was caught amidst a group of riders ignoring traffic laws along Ring Road Central. Sergeant Sandra Amakyie, presenting the case, detailed that Sani was on his Royal Motorbike when he approached the Club 10 traffic light, which was red. Ignoring the signal, he rode through, endangering others on the road. A police task force, Operation PARI, spotted and apprehended him, leading to his arrest and subsequent charge by the Nima MTTD after thorough investigations.
