Raphael Nii Otu, a 28-year-old caretaker, was sentenced to three years in prison by the Adentan Circuit Court. He was found guilty of defrauding two people by renting out his employer’s apartment without permission. Otu took GH¢11,400 from Paul Thomas and GH¢3,600 from Joseph Mensah, promising them the same apartment. After receiving the money, he claimed the owner had changed her mind about renting.

The court, presided over by Sedinam Awo Kwadam, sentenced Otu to two years for defrauding Thomas and an additional 12 months for defrauding Mensah. Both sentences will run consecutively. Otu pleaded guilty and explained his actions, but the court still handed down the sentences based on the prosecution’s evidence.
