Earlier this year, Gifty Oware-Mensah, women’s football representative on the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council, had promised the payments would be made before the African Games in March, but this did not happen.

After months of delay, the Sports Ministry has now paid the players a revised amount of $4,500 each. The Black Princesses are gearing up to represent Ghana for the 7th consecutive time at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia, starting on August 31.

Ghana has been drawn into Group E, alongside Japan, Austria, and New Zealand, as the Princesses aim to advance past the group stages for the first time.
