Water shortage in Accra: why the taps aren’t flowing and when it will be restored

0

The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced the reason why some parts of the capital, especially eastern parts of the Greater Accra Region have been experiencing water shortage and why there has been an interruption in water supply since Sunday, August 25, 2024.

According to the GWCL, the hitch is due to a burst in the transmission line from the Kpone Treatment Plant to the Dodowa Booster Station.

The statement said further issues were detected along the same transmission line, requiring a second shutdown, after initial repair works was completed.

The GWCL has therefore assured the general public that engineers are working hard to replace the weak parts of the transmission line.

Water supply would be restored by the end of today, August 28, 2024, if all goes to plan, according to the GWCL.

According to the statement, GWCL has taken temporary steps to lessen the impact on the impacted areas.

The affected areas are La, Osu, Legon, Dodowa, Adenta, Oyibi, Madina, Frafraha, Haatso, Kanda, Ashongman, Airport Residential, and neighbouring communities.

The Company pointed out that tanks were being used to supply water to vital service providers including hospitals and schools.
