According to Dr. UN, the Kofi Annan Foundation and the UN supported the awards, which were meant to recognise significant members of society.
Former Vice-chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, rapper and businessman D-Black, multiple award-winning artist Sarkodie, media personalities, Bella Mundi and Johnie Hughes, sports journalist Nathaniel Attoh and NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Antwi Boasiako also known as Chairman Wontumi, and many others were among the recipients of the fake award.
A few days later, journalists and social media users started digging about the authenticity of the award scheme.
Their investigations revealed that the awards were fake, and had no affiliation with the UN or Kofi Annan Foundation.
