The two-day “VAR Kick-off Meeting” will take place in Accra from October 31 to November 1, 2024. The FIFA team, comprising the full VAR project group, will join GFA officials and other stakeholders to chart the path toward VAR implementation.
This meeting marks the start of FIFA’s Implementation Assessment Approval Program (IAAP) in Ghana—a required process for any football association aiming to integrate VAR technology. Throughout the sessions, FIFA and GFA will review key aspects of the VAR rollout plan, from infrastructure needs to training requirements, ensuring all elements align for a smooth deployment.
If the outcome is positive, FIFA’s approval would green-light the introduction of VAR, setting Ghana’s domestic leagues on a course for greater accuracy in officiating. Fans and players alike may soon see a new era of precision in calls and game-changing decisions within the Ghana Premier League.
