Greater Accra records first case of MPOX .

The Greater Accra Region has recorded the first case of MPOX, raising the number of confirmed cases in Ghana to three.  

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) announced the development, assuring the public that all required steps are being taken to monitor and contain the situation.  

This recent case of the viral disease was confirmed last week, according to Dr. Dennis Laryea, Deputy Director of Public Health in charge of Disease Surveillance at GHS.

“There was one case confirmed in the Greater Accra Region. The region has conducted investigations, and so far, no new cases have been identified, even among the contacts.

“However, we are continuing to monitor for any symptoms. I don’t have the exact number of contacts offhand, but the case was confirmed last week,” he stated.

To stop the virus from spreading further, contacts of the confirmed case are being monitored.   

In August, the Western Region of Ghana reported the country’s first MPOX case, with 25 contacts found. The patient’s mother tested positive shortly after, increasing the number of cases nationwide to two as of October 31.

This new case recorded in the capital raises the tally to three, and the public has been urged to stay safe.
