Ghana international Gideon Mensah says it’s a “big loss” for eight players to withdraw from the Black Stars squad ahead of their final two 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Mensah admitted that it’s a big loss for the team miss out eight players who are instrumental to the team but he believes the replacements are good enough.
Speaking to the media after the team’s opening training at the Accra Sports Stadium yesterday, the 26-year-old added that the available players can still complete the task ahead.

“For me, I think first of all, every player in the national team is very crucial to the team. And then obviously, we have players that we are always looking up to see in the national team, and we have players that are also there to support when other players are not there. It’s a big loss for us.
“But also at this time, at the end of the day, we still have a team to cover up. And then I’m not really scared about that. So, when one is not there, another person is ready to play for me,” the Auxerre left-back said.
Otto Addo’s 25-man team for the match against Angola and Niger took a hit yesterday when eight players withdrew from the squad.
They were Tariq Lamptey, Alexander Djiku, Antoine Semenyo, and Inaki Williams.
The remaining players are, Ibrahim Osman, Jerome Opoku, John Paintsil, and Jonas Adjetey.
In the meantime, the eight players have been replaced by six others; Osman Bukari, Ransford Yeboah Koningsdorffer, Forson Amankwah, Terry Yegbe, Ebenezer Annan, and Kingsley Schindler.

This Friday, the Black Stars play Angola, then on Monday, November 18, 2024, three days later, they welcome Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium.
