Abdul-Rasheed Saminu, born on October 6, 2001, in the village of Nanumba, Ghana, is a rising star in the world of athletics. Initially a keen football player, Saminu was encouraged to pursue sprinting and has since flourished in the sport.
After showcasing his talent in Ghana, Saminu attended Florida Memorial University and the University of South Florida, where he was recruited by head coach Erik Jenkins. His time in the U.S. saw him achieve remarkable feats, including a wind-aided 100m dash in 9.95 seconds at the South Florida Invitational in April 2024.

Saminu’s prowess was further demonstrated at the AAC Championships in May 2024, where he won gold in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay. His personal bests include a 10.02-second 100m and a 20.12-second 200m, both set at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
In June 2024, Saminu was part of Ghana’s 4x100m relay team that won gold at the African Championships in Douala, Cameroon. His outstanding performances have earned him a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he will compete in the Men’s 100m and the Men’s 4x100m relay.
