Accra hosts maiden Africa Skills Week this October - details.

Accra, Ghana will host the rest of Africa this month as the maiden edition of Africa Skills Week takes center stage in the capital from October 14, 2024, to October 18, 2024.

The African Union Commission on Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation is organising the week, which will bring together all agencies and institutions that provide skills training to talk about how to best prepare the continent’s workforce for the twenty-first century.

The one-week event supports the African Union’s 2024 theme, “Year of Transforming Education 2024,” and is themed “Skills and Jobs for the 21st Century: Quality Skills Development for Sustainable Employ­ability in Africa.”

During the weekend, the Director General of the Commission for Technical, Vocational and Educational Training (CTVET), Dr. Fred Kyei, gave a briefing to the media in Accra about the event.

He stated that the country’s hosting of an international event was not only an honour but also a testament to its increasing prominence in the TVET field over the continent.

In addition to helping TVET colleges connect and interact with industry, he clarified that the Africa Skills Week will guarantee that graduates were better prepared for career responsibilities and opportunities by offering a venue for them to connect and match skills training to market needs.

The conference will unite leaders and innovators in skills development from across Africa.
