Accra Narcotics Case Dismissed: Accused Freed After Year-Long Delay in Forensic Report

2

Two individuals, Dzifa Dzikunu, a chop bar operator, and Amekudzi Kwasi Junior, a welder and bar attendant, have been discharged due to the police’s failure to produce a forensic report on suspected narcotics. The Adentan Circuit Court had been waiting for over a year to receive this report to begin the trial. The pair, who had previously been granted bail, were charged with aiding in the unlawful possession or control of these drugs.

The case was called to court today, with the prosecution, led by Chief Superintendent of Police Patience Mario, requesting an adjournment to check on the forensic report’s status. However, the court, presided over by Sedinam Awo Balokah, decided it could wait no longer after a year of delays.

Consequently, the court discharged the accused and their sureties and dismissed the case due to lack of prosecution. The initial arrest of Dzifa and Amekudzi took place during a police swoop on a suspected criminal hideout in Kpone Bawaleshie, near Oyibi, Accra. The police alleged that the two were living together and had in their possession 50 wraps of substances suspected to be narcotics, and alcoholic beverages suspected to be laced with narcotics.
