AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Why Thomas Partey has been left out of the Black Stars call-up.

Black Stars captain Thomas Partey has been left out of the squad to face Angola and Niger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Partey also missed Ghana’s double-header against Sudan due to medical reasons.

Ghana failed to win any of the two games against the Falcons of Jediane last month.

Today, Black Stars head coach Otto Addo announced his 25-man squad for the upcoming qualifiers without the Arsenal midfielder.

Addo, at the squad announcement press conference, explained that the 31-year-old wanted to join the squad but he decided not to invite him.

“I had a confidential talk with Thomas Partey. I’m a coach who always likes to protect the players, so I hope you understand.

“For me, the team is like family and I’m not coming out with internal issues. He wanted to come but I made it quite clear to him why he’s not coming. Like I said, it’s confidential. It’s difficult for me to mention all the things,” he said during the press conference at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Conference room today.

The Black Stars will travel to Luanda to battle Angola on Friday, November 15, 2024, before taking on Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18, 2024.
