The Black Stars’ troubles in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers deepened following a 2-0 defeat to Sudan last Tuesday in Benghazi. The match saw Ghana struggle once again as Ahmed Hamed Mahmoud opened the scoring in the 62nd minute, followed by a quick second from Mohammed Abdelrahman just three minutes later to secure the win for Sudan.

Ghana’s chances of qualifying for the next AFCON now look bleak, as the team has failed to secure a win in their first four matches. With just two points, they sit in third place in Group F, making their qualification hopes increasingly slim.
Former Black Stars midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu expressed his frustration with the team’s performance, questioning the commitment of the players. He pointed out that their club form is not reflected when they play for the national team. “They perform well at their clubs, but once they come to play for Ghana, it’s a different story. There’s no team cohesion, no character, no passion,” Badu said during an interview on Accra’s Onua TV.
Agyemang Badu, who earned 78 caps for Ghana and was a key player in the Black Satellites’ 2009 Africa Youth Championship and FIFA U-20 World Cup victories, added his voice to the growing concerns around the team’s struggles.
The Black Stars will have one last opportunity to redeem their campaign next month when they face Angola and Niger. To stand any chance of qualification, they must win both matches and hope for favorable outcomes from other group fixtures.
