Ghanaian skipper Andre Ayew talked about the controversial red card he received during his debut for Le Havre against Nantes in the French Ligue 1 last Sunday. Ayew expressed frustration with the referee’s decision, explaining that he saw the situation differently upon reviewing the footage.
‘Yes, it’s football, it’s football. I believe that with sufficient experience, one can detach oneself from such situations. But upon reviewing the footage, I’m rather composed,’
“There’s a ball in a fifty-fifty situation between us. He lunges, he goes for it before me. I notice his maneuver, he’s on track to reach the ball first, I raise my foot in an attempt to restrain it, and in the process of landing, I barely touch his shin guard. And that’s it, that’s how the referee saw it”.
Ayew narrated his perspective on the incident.
Ayew underscored that his intentions did not involve causing harm to the adversary, stressing that his actions were aimed solely at securing possession of the ball.
However, due to the suspension, the 33-year-old will miss Le Havre’s upcoming three matches, including the highly anticipated faceoff against PSG at the Stade Océane this Sunday.
