Reigning champions Ashanti Region began their defense of the KGL Foundation Inter-Regional U17 Colts Championship with a decisive 4-1 victory over Bono Ahafo on July 26, 2024. Playing at the GFA’s Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, Coach Kwaku Boateng’s team showcased their dominance despite finishing with nine players due to late red cards for Emmanuel Kwame Boakye and Abdul Ashurah.

Daniel Sarfo opened the scoring with a free kick at 12 minutes, followed by Eric Adu Gyamfi’s goal early in the second half. Bono Ahafo’s Dennis Darko converted a penalty at the 70th minute, but Ashanti responded with goals from Maxwell Bayon and Narbi Joseph. Gyamfi, donning the iconic No. 10 jersey, was named Man of the Match.
In another Group A match, Volta Region defeated Central Region 3-0, with first-half goals from Aglago George, Tabo Kennedy, and Setsoafia Junioe Akwetey. Akwetey’s standout performance earned him Man of the Match.
GFA Executive Council members, including Nana Sarfo Oduro and Professor Joseph Kwame Mintah, attended the ceremonial kick-off. The Championship continues with Greater Accra facing Upper East and Eastern Region playing Upper West on July 27, 2024. Launched in 2021, the Championship runs until August 8, 2024, aiming to identify and develop young talents for Ghana’s national teams.
