The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice has introduced new charges against Nana Appiah Mensah, aka NAM 1, the former head of the now-defunct company Menzgold. This means all previous accusations have been dropped. Yvonne Atakora, the Director of Prosecution, clarified that the need to correct some figures in the case led to the new charges, stressing that it was done in the name of justice. The case has been pushed to December 4, 2023, providing NAM1’s legal team sufficient time to study the new charges.
NAM1’s legal team asked for the case to be postponed, a request the state attorney agreed to. In light of safety issues, the judge has ordered increased security at the court entrance. This comes after an incident where NAM1’s Public Relations Officer was allegedly attacked following a prior court session.

Menzgold, which halted operations in 2018, was accused of running a Ponzi scheme, causing upset customers to demand their money back. Nana Appiah Mensah is currently facing trial for reportedly scamming over 16,000 people out of GH¢1.68 billion. Despite NAM1’s assertions, the government disclosed that only GH¢2.5 million was received from him, not the claimed GH¢5 million.
