The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has declared that Parliament will not approve ministers and Deputy Ministers of State nominated by President Akufo-Addo. He cited a legal challenge that has reached the Supreme Court as the reason for suspending the consideration of these nominations. The suspension follows an interlocutory injunction filed by MP Rockson-Nelson Etse K. Dafeamekpor, effectively halting Parliament’s ability to proceed with the approval process.

Furthermore, the presidency issued a cease and desist letter to Parliament, preventing them from advancing the Bill on Human Sexual Rights and Family Values for President Akufo-Addo’s signature due to ongoing legal proceedings at the Supreme Court. In response, Bagbin emphasized Parliament’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and declared its inability to continue considering the President’s nominations until the Supreme Court decides on the interlocutory injunction. Additionally, he addressed attempts by the Executive Secretary of the President to instruct the Clerk to Parliament, asserting Parliament’s autonomy and adherence to the legal framework.
