Captain Abu, a notorious landguard, was brought before Accra’s Circuit Court 4 on Friday, December 8th, 2023, following his arrest by the East Legon Police Command. Known for alleged acts of impunity, including bus burnings, he was later transferred to the Greater Accra Regional Police Command and brought to the Circuit Court for prosecution. The court charged him with eight counts, including causing unlawful damage, conspiracy to commit crime, prohibition of the activities of landguards, stealing, and assault.

The proceedings on December 8th addressed the alleged acts of impunity committed against a number of people in various Accra communities. These alleged crimes were reportedly committed with the assistance of several other miscreants – Ibrahim Adam, Adamu Yusif Haruna, Alhassan Boko, Lion, Aliu, Chowe, Tinny, Commander – all of whom are currently at large. The Ghana Police Service is actively working to facilitate their arrest.
After hearing from Captain Abu’s defense lawyer, the court granted him bail, but with conditions. These included a 2 million Ghana cedis bond, or its equivalent in landed property, with two sureties. The court also issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Adamu Yusif Haruna, who is currently at large. State Prosecutor, DSP Nana Oppong, brought fresh allegations of attempted murder against Captain Abu. The case has been adjourned to December 15th, 2023, for further hearing.
