A concerned citizen has placed tyres in a pothole on the Accra-Tema motorway as a warning to oncoming drivers to prevent a potential accident.
The pothole was covered with three car tyres to indicate to drivers using the Accra to Tema stretch of the motorway to escape bumping into the hole.
Drivers were seen going round the tyres in order not to risk causing any danger on the highway.
The Accra-Tema motorway has been a concern for commuters who ply the road daily with many drivers describing it as a “death trap.”
However, their constant pleas have unfortunately fallen on the deaf ears of city authorities, and the Roads and Highways Authority.
Early this year, reconstruction and expansion of the Accra-Tema Motorway commenced.
The 19.5-kilometer project involves a 10-lane span from the Tetteh Quarshie roundabout to the Tema roundabout.
But the concrete road is still in a deteriorated state with uneven patches of bitumen and asphalt covering countless potholes.
In 48 months, more than 136 people died on the Accra Tema motorway.
“With the current state of the road, more people are still at risk of losing their lives every day, and they can avoid serious injury or death,” researchers Reedemer Buatsi and Prosper Midedzi warned after conducting an extensive study on the road.
