Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi expressed bewilderment regarding injured right-back Tariq Lamptey’s selection in Ghana’s provisional squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as reported by 3news

Lamptey, sidelined due to injury since late October, has missed Brighton’s last eight games. De Zerbi, questioning the rationale behind Lamptey’s inclusion, highlighted, “The coach of Ghana doesn’t watch the Premier League; otherwise, they would know that Tariq Lamptey hasn’t played for us in months.” Emphasizing Lamptey’s unavailability for Brighton, De Zerbi added, “He’s not fit to play for us, so how can he play for Ghana?”

The initial 55-player squad will eventually be trimmed to a final 27, set to represent Ghana in the tournament. The Black Stars are anticipated to commence their pre-tournament preparations three weeks ahead of their opening match, although the specific camp location remains undisclosed.

Ghana’s AFCON group stage will kick off against Cape Verde on January 14, followed by fixtures against Egypt and Mozambique.
