John Dumelo, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, has formally retracted and apologized to his opponent, Lydia Alhassan, the current Member of Parliament (MP) and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate.
This comes after the Widows Association in Ayawaso West Wuogon condemned Dumelo for making “egregious and unsubstantiated” allegations against Lydia Alhassan.

In a Facebook post, Dumelo stated,
“I apologize and unreservedly retract my previous comments. I extend my sincere and unconditional apologies to Hon. Lydia Alhassan for my remarks during the Media General public engagement (Community Manifesto) concerning the death of her husband.”
He explained that his comments were a reaction to personal attacks from supporters of the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, but acknowledged that his response was inappropriate. Dumelo reaffirmed his commitment to the development and progress of the constituency, promising to work tirelessly for positive change.
