The Electoral Commission (EC) has once again dismissed calls from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for a forensic audit of the Provisional Voter’s Register (PVR).
In a response to NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s petition following a September 17 demonstration, the EC emphasized that the legal and administrative procedures for addressing concerns with the register are still in place and have not been fully utilized. The Commission stated that the current processes are sufficient, and a forensic audit is not warranted at this stage.
The EC underscored its commitment to ensuring the integrity of the electoral process, urging both the NDC and the public to trust the established mechanisms for resolving discrepancies.
The EC also assured the NDC that most of the discrepancies identified in the Provisional Voter’s Register have been addressed, as was successfully done during the 2020 general elections, and the same process will be applied for the upcoming 2024 elections.

In an effort to promote collaboration, the EC invited the NDC to engage in a discussion to observe the measures taken to rectify any issues. Additionally, the EC acknowledged the sacking of its District Officer at Pusiga in the Upper East Region over 38 illegal vote transfers, which have since been corrected.
However, the Commission rejected the NDC’s request for a physical re-exhibition of the register due to time constraints, offering an online exhibition instead, which will be available until election day.
