Nii Armah Ashitey, who previously served as an Assembly member, has been brought before an Accra Circuit Court, facing allegations of embezzlement. Accused of misappropriating GH¢500,000 entrusted to him by a foundation for road and drainage construction, Ashitey is charged with defrauding by false pretense, abuse of public office, and money laundering. Despite his not guilty plea, Ashitey has been unable to substantiate his claim of using the funds for project mobilization with any documentary evidence.
The case is being overseen by Judge Isaac Addo, who has set Ashitey’s bail at GH¢500,000 with two sureties. Meanwhile, the proceedings have been temporarily paused, with the next court date scheduled for April 2, 2024. Assistant Superintendent of Police Seth Frimpong, leading the prosecution, has identified the complainants as Maxwell Ahugah and Naomi Vogel, holding positions as manager and director at the Robert Vogel Memorial Foundation.

The foundation, known for its philanthropic contributions within the community, had planned to develop infrastructure in the Adobetor electoral area during Ashitey’s term at the La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly. The Robert Vogel Memorial Foundation’s intent to construct the road and drainage was met with deceit, as Ashitey allegedly presented inflated project costs for personal gain.
