The Ghana Football Association (GFA) incurred a hefty 5000 Swiss Francs fine from FIFA due to misconduct during the World Cup qualifier against Madagascar at the Baba Yara Stadium on November 17, 2023. FIFA penalized the GFA for two violations of the FIFA Disciplinary Code. Firstly, an intruder entered the pitch after Inaki Williams’ game-winning goal. Secondly, unauthorized individuals joined players in celebrating the goal within the restricted area.

FIFA acknowledged the security team’s efforts but emphasized the necessity for stricter access control and improved internet facilities at the stadium. This incident marks Ghana’s second penalty for fan encroachment in recent years. Previously, in 2019, during a Nations Cup qualifier against South Africa, the GFA was fined $10,000 by CAF for a similar occurrence.
