Officers from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) claim to have prevented over 97% of the Kasoa new market from being completely destroyed by the fire outbreak on Sunday, 25 August 2024.
Firefighters used four fire appliances from the Kasoa, Budumburam, Dansoman, and Korle Bu Fire Stations to contain the fire, which damaged 76 market stalls and the goods inside.
The fire on Sunday destroyed thousands of Ghanaian cedis’ worth of property.
No injuries were reported despite obstacles such gas cylinder explosions that contributed to the fire’s spread and difficulty reaching the fire’s centre.
The tragedy happened just twenty-four hours after another building collapse disaster that left scores of people injured and three people dead.
