Fishing has finally made a return to the various coasts in the capital after a month’s break.

Businesses has started booming at many landing sites in Accra, as fishermen prepare for  a bumper harvest.

At Accra’s Jamestown Landing Beach, fishermen have indicated that they are ready for bumper fishing following a one-month hiatus. This has allowed them to replace outboard motor parts that are no longer needed, mend nets, buy new fishing boats, and prepare the older ones for the upcoming season.

Fishmongers, Kenkey sellers and fresh fish sellers have all started trooping the various landing sites in the capital to purchase fishes.

As early as five in the morning on Friday, many traders trooped to the Osu beach to get the best stock of fishes caught fresh by fishermen.

Customers at pre-mix fuel selling points in the city have also increased significantly as fishermen prepare to return to sea.

The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson, announced the ban on fishing for artisanal fishers for the month of July.

She, this week, officially declared the sea open effective August 1, and called upon all stakeholders to participate in the conservation of Ghana’s marine resources.

Ghana’s fishing community was to abstain from fishing throughout the month of July in an effort to replenish the country’s declining fish population.
