A 20-year-old student of the African University College of Communications (AUCC) is on track to design and commercially produce the first multipurpose electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Ghana.
William Nana Acheampong, who was a cashier at KFC and later a delivery rider before gaining admission to AUCC has won the Most Innovative Idea at the 2024 Bolt Accelerator Program.
The 20-year-old student was rewarded a certificate and two thousand Euros for his brilliant multipurpose EV charging station he designed and presented at the pitching session of the Bolt Accelerator Program which had over 100 participants.
Nana Acheampong was inspired by his days as a delivery rider at Glovo and Bolt using an electric bike from Wahu Mobility.
He always encountered the challenge of going all the way back home to charge his electric bike anytime the battery ran down, because there are no charging stations in town.
Disturbed and motivated by this, he set out to design a charging station for people like himself since it was expensive to import one into the country.
Currently, Nana Acheampong is welcoming investors to provide funding to produce the EV charging stations on a commercial scale across the country.
