During a peaceful Christmas in Ghana, police officers kept watch over the festive streets. While revelers enjoyed the holiday, some motorists tried to offer bribes for minor traffic infractions. The officers, committed to their duty, declined these bribes, standing firm on their moral principles.
This act of integrity didn’t go unnoticed; it was highlighted at the Police Headquarters on January 15, 2024. This recognition came despite past reports by UNODC and the Ghana Statistical Service, which had labeled the Police Service as highly corrupt. The IGP, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, contested these findings, defending the honor of his officers.

Constable Sowu, reflecting on the Christmas duty, credited divine grace for their ability to resist corruption, a sentiment echoed by COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu, who encouraged the officers to continue their fight against bribery. This stance by the Ghana Police Service is a step towards changing perceptions and building trust within the community.
